Rare Presentation M1 Garand Semi-Automatic Rifle

Rare Presentation M1 Garand Semi-Automatic Rifle, #2277711, .30-06 cal., 24'' barrel dated S-A-3-48, parkerized finish with fancy walnut stock, as presented to Major George T. Dyson upon his retirement from the Springfield Armory. Major Dyson was awarded the Bronze Star during his long career with the Ordnance Dept./U.S. Army, and this rifle includes various photographs and copies of his retirement certificate. Not only does the rifle feature an interesting serial number, but it retains early features, such as the lock bar rear sight and milled triggerguard. The beautifully figured stock, upper and forward handguard are all hand finished with no issue markings as is consistent with all known armory presentation pieces. As this rifle was put away for sixty years before being relinquished by the family, it remains in excellent and unfired condition with only the slightest handling marks, as the daughter relates from spending the better part of five decades in the hall closet. A rare opportunity to own a Garand variant that was never issued or made available to the general public and presented to one of the men responsible for the quality that made it ''the greatest battle implement ever devised''. Est.: $4,500-$6,000. (C&R/PPT)
