Sharps Model 1865 Breechloading Carbine

Sharps Model 1865 Breechloading Percussion Carbine, #C47848, .52 cal., 22" barrel, case hardened frame, lever and barrel band; blue barrel with cartouched walnut stock and forend. Right side of lockplate marked "C. Sharps' Pat Oct. 5th 1852"; left side of frame additionally marked "R.S. Lawrence Pat/April 12th 1859"; left side of frame "C Sharps' Pat/ Sept 12th 1848". "LW" inspector markings to left side of barrel at breech, saddle ring bar base and at base of forend.  Rear sight marked "R.S. Lawrence Patented Feb 15th 1859".  "TWR" and "DFC" cartouches to left side of buttstock, no additional markings.  Condition is excellent and appearing nearly new, with the exception of mild frosting to the barrel about six inches from the muzzle. Vivid case colors to all case hardened components including the buttplate. Bore is a three-grooved factory relined specimen that shows mirror bright.  The presence of the DFC cartouche indicates that this carbine should have the firing pin modified breechblock, yet it retains a very nearly new condition unmodified percussion breechblock with absolutely no corrosion in the nipple area and an intact cap feeder retaining almost all its nitre blue. Mild knackering at bottom edge of buttstock.  Est:  $3,500-$5,000. (Antique)
