Silver-Plated Tranter 2nd Model Revolver

Tranter

Exquisite Silver-Plated Tranter 2nd Model Double Trigger Percussion Revolver, #11,943T, .44 cal. (54 bore), 6" barrel, silver plated, checkered walnut grips.  Mfg'd approx. 1850/60.  Engraved with monogram "A/D" and "E Lefaure, Bte. A Paris" on top strap, "No 11,943T" on right side of frame, "Tranter's / Patent" on loading lever, "F.O" on left side of frame behind loading lever.  Frame and barrel are line engraved around the entire margin.  Cylinder is marked on four chambers with the London View mark and on one chamber with the firing proof. Pistol is presented in its original green velvet line case bearing a brass monogram plate engraved "A/D", with bullet mould, tin of French caps, C&J.W. Hawksley copper powder flask, tin of grease (hardened), ebony pistol rod, glass oil bottle, and leather cap pouch which still retains paper labels from Tranters Manufacturers; inside of lid is marked "E. Lefaure / Paris".  Condition is near excellent retaining approx. 98% original silver plate finish with the loss limited to the underside of the top strap and face plate.  Grips are near perfect with a couple of light flats to the checkering points.  Silver-plated butt cap with floral engraved screw heads shows minor dents near one of the screws.  Action functions as designed; hammer is equipped with a spur that assists with dropping the hammer from full cock.  Bore shows evidence of firing but is near mint.  This is one of the nicest Tranters we have seen.  You may be able to find one with more embellishment but not in better condition.  Est.: $5,000-$7,000.   (Antique)
